Here's a weird arrowhead I made today out of a long and very thin waste flake. I'm just glad the thing held together and I didn't break it in half. When I started notching it I kinda turned the corner notches upward and made this kinda weird looking point. The ears look kinda droopy in my opinion, but the shape of the base makes me think "midevil England". I don't know why, but it does. Sometimes when we knap, weird things and weird points happen. Anyway, enjoy my weird point, and weird post! hahaha....

Good looking point, Billy. It kinda looks like one of those pitifull creatures living under a bridge, with a hood over it's head, and droopy face. ??? Are you punching those notches?

AWESOME ! as usual bro.. lookslike a spring turkey point to me ;) Hawk a/ho

Thanks ya'll!
No mullet, those notches were done with a horseshoe nail flaking tool. and I just used regular pressure to make them. After a few flake removals, the edge of the nail got dull and instead of gripping the edge inside the notch, it would slip, crushing the edge and dulling it. That's a dangerous situation to be caught in because if you continue to use a dull tool it will require too much pressure to release the next flake. When the flake finally does come off, it is so massive that it will wrap around and rip the entire ear off. Instead of trying to push it, I instead re-dressed the nail with a file and it gripped the dull edge inside the notch. I was able to take smaller flakes off and make those notches without blowing the ears off. I learned something today...I need to redress my horse shoe nail several times when making those notches. Until today, I never re-dressed my tool while I was notching, and because of that I had problems blowing the ears off when the edge got crushed inside the notch. So for all you knappers, keep your tools in tip-top shape at all times, and you'll have better results!

Very nice job on that point! Love them notches and yes sharp tools is the key. I still struggle with notches.Another trick to add to the list is getting the base thin enough for those small flakes to travel.
I like ol droopy ears.:)

Cool point billy. I thought you had punched those notches too. I hear ya on the notch flaking, once they dull up it's a flip of the coin.

Very talented.
Nice creation!

thanks for the tip, Billy. I've been using a horseshoe nail,to. I also use one of those carbide blades that go in a hacksaw for cutting tile. They work great for dressing up a notch, and grinding a good angle.
