what would be the best way to remove the shellac from a bow blank without scraping? or sanding
-
Never tried it any other way,I always scrap it off ,being careful not to get into the wood. :)

thats the way I always do in but some beginners tend to scrape off to much, wondering if some type of paint remover would work?
-
Could try denatured alcohol or some diluted ammonia, those are what you use to clean your brush, but
don't know if it will work on dried shellac ???
-
I know acetone will take lacquer off with just a few wipes.
-
Yes, denatured alcohol. If not try a 50/50 with laquer thinner.
-
The carrier for shellac is alcohol. I use denatures alcohol to remove it from wood. If the bow isn't going to be dyed and finish will go right over the shellac.
-
Paint stripper...the type that says it will remove shellac (on the label). ;D

Alcohol

I use denatured alchohol and a stiff tooth brush :)
