Title: My new Ironwood longbow
Post by: whitewoodshunter on February 28, 2009, 03:09:40 pm
Well this is my Ironwood longbow. It is a snaky and twisty  68 t-t bow and pulls 49# @26. It is 1 1/2 at its widest and fated to 3/8 tips. It has a pretty severe dog leg it the lower limb, however it hasn't seemed to effect the bow.The bow shoots fast and accurate. It has no handshock and no stacking. It has taken no set after about 200 hundred shots.I am pretty well pleased with the way the bow turned out. The wood is beautiful.  Enjoy

I forgot to mention that the finish was Miniwax dark walnut stain and then 5 coats of wipe on poly.
The arrow rest is a Floppy rest
Here are some more pics; of the grip and the tips.
Oh and the black thing was my new hunting buddy ,Colt, my Black lab pup.

Sailordad: its locally cut Hop Hornbeam from PA. Its really hard to find a piece that will actually make a bow, but I found a "Honey hole" full of it and it's all mine HAHAHA!!!!!!

None of the wood I have access to is cut yet. Around here it really doesn't get to be "log" size, just big enough to split in two pieces.

If you could get that 8" or so of straight wood right below your handle bending a little it might keep that hing from failing.

I am with you Tim....Works pretty much like Hickory....but it sure handles the Moisture better than Hickory does
