Title: looking for agate in oregon

i was wondering if any one knows of an area in oregon to look for agate..i know there is agate on the oregon coast but i am looking in the cenrtal or eastern part.thanks john

Try Richardson's rock ranch out of Madras where you can dig several types of agate.  There are several quarries on both sides of the Columbia Gorge.  There are some areas around Owyhee Reservoir in south east Oregon that are accessable by boat.  One of my favorite agates is Piute agate.  It comes from southern Oregon, but never found where.  Used to by it at Richardsons.  Makes fantastic skinning knives!  Joe

There's a lot of it in Jackson County, Oregon, agate desert is almost all agate and there is a lot on BLM land off Crowfoot Rd, if that means anything to you.

thanks guys for the info....joe,i wish i new where the piute agate was at all so.i have looked all over the web and cant find any thing...flecha,i dont know where agate desert is BUT crowfoot road-HECK YEAH..i am from eagle point and know right where that is at...that is the same area where frenchy and i was fighting over a road kill coon...so,can you give me some more in sight on crowfoot or where the agate desert is.thanks john

Off Crowfoot, on BLM land, I go up washed out draws and find some good stuff.  Out in White City, by the water reclamation facility near Touvelle State Park is another good place.

hey flecha,frenchy  has blow en my mind many of times.not just with flint knapping and bow making but with other stuff too...he is like einstein with a goat-tee..john
