After much reading, Bowyers Bibles 1,2 & 3 , website help, and advice from many, my first selfbow is done. It is ash 60"ntn, 50# @ 26". After I split my log this was a smaller piece I was just going to practice on but it was coming along well so I finished it. The handle was a little slim for me so I wrapped it with caribou fur & wrapped that with shaven hide. Feels good now & shoots good !! I just have to get a nice string for it & it's complete. Now I can start my next one !! Thanks, John

That's a really good looking bow, very impressive...especially for your first. :)
Did you ever mention the wood type? It looks like ash, but I'm not sure.
-
That is just a super bow for your first!! Very well done, sir. Split your own stave, self bow, short length, good weight, super tiller... you bit off a big chew for your first, and pulled it off well. I do believe you're hooked!

Looks great :)

Thanks for all the compliments guys ! I am proud of it, but all of the credit goes to all the advice I got. Especially during tillering, everyone said SLOWLY, and that is what I did. I used Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane for the finish & I like how that stuff works. My next bow is already roughed out from the same log, I did that Sunday. It has some deflex in handle area and reflexed limbs naturally so it will hopefully come out nice . It is a pyramid limb design about the same length, so we'll see what happens. Thanks, again, John
