Man, that's wicked and demented! I love it-now that's CHARACTER! How about some braced and full draw pics? Oh-welcome to PA. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
-
Thats just a little bit twisted.
-
That is definitely snakey. How does it shoot? Justin
-
That's crazy! here I am trying to keep my bows straight as an arrow - adds a whole new demension to (follow the grain) I'm starting to understand that doesn't mean just the back. Would like to see a braced and full draw.
-
"Twisted Sister"-now thats a rock group-BUT it could be this bow-bob
-
Nice bow. I love seeing character bows. Jawge
-
The bow was a challenge from a friend. He gave me the wood because he was going to throw it away. He dared me to make a bow from it so I did. It took about three months of slow scrapin. It's cast is not that good and it's a bit wip ended but I'm just extremely pleased that it even shoots. I've shot it about 1000 times. Hey George. I remember you from years ago. Do you own this site now :D JK! I'll try to post some pics of it braced and at full draw.
-
Anyone who claims they can't find wood to make a bow from needs to look at what you created, most people would probably have tossed that piece of wood, but you took it and took the challenge. Perfect wood sure makes things easier, we should all try something like this maybe just to hone our skills or pull us from our comfort zone. Quite an accomplishment.

Thanks Venison! :)
-
Sorry man, Thats not hideious , thats awes0ome!!
-
How on earth do you even know how to follow the grain on something like that?
That's insane!
-
Patience! 3 months of very slow scraping.
-
WOW!
-
Very, very cool! That's my kinda bow. You did a great job with it. Congrats! Pat
-
Cool, 8) was it made from a branch? ???
-
Beauty! OC ;D
-
Would be great to see some braced pics. Amazing that a bow can be made from such wood. You really need a dead twisty arrow to go with it!

nice! never seen persimmon grow like that in my neck of the woods. it's usually straight as an arrow.
-
Now thats what i call makin bows!!! I love it. Steve
-
Very impressive Ozark, I have a great respect for bowyers that step up to a challenge like that. I bet you leaarned more from that piece of wood than any others you've done. That is one of the best examples of reading the wood and "seeing the bow in the wood", that I have ever seen. Congratulations. Keenan
-
Wow. Wow. Wow. You are a madman. That is an awesome bow and you have accomplished a feat that most of us will not even consider. Quite a craftsman.
Eliseo
-
That's excellent! Looks like a piece of driftwood.
-
Ditto to everyone elses' comments. Can you show us more pictures?
-
That's just plain nasty! Now here's one I would never lay down in the woods or leave near a woodpile! Great work, P1.
-
excellent :)
have you got a picture of it strung and at full draw? :)
-
I haven't got around to getting pics of it braced but I'll do that as soon as possible. Like I said, it's a bit whip ended but I'm just proud that it even shoots. I'll die with this bow! I've made so many and always trade them, give them as gifts, or sell em. I've had so many nice ones and nothing to show for it but I'll never get rid of this one.
-
Nice character bow. Must have been fun to tiller
-
I love every hidious snake and twist in that bow. Congratulations. Kenneth
-
Ozark, this is just a tremendous bow. Wow, as someone else said. It is clearly a functional work of art.
Dane
-
That's a beauty,I love those kind of bows.
Pappy
-
Killer waves-n-grain.
Where is the side view of the braced bow and of course what it looks like drawn.
3 pages of koodoz for showing a tiller challenged staff????
Guess it's cuz it's osage. ;D
My bad it's persimmon. One of my favorite woods.
How does it perform? I made a bow from this wood last year and really liked it. The color of the wood is beautiful.
-
I'm going to get the braced pics soon. It's performance is average. It's slightly whip ended. I should probably retiller it but I figure why mess with something that is already so beautiful. I'm just proud it even shoots.
-
nice! never seen persimmon grow like that in my neck of the woods. it's usually straight as an arrow.
Same here! I have a couple persimmon trees I thought about starting out with because they're so straight.
That's a beautiful bow.
-
Just got back in town...WOW that's a beauty! Persimmon is suppose to be really good wood.

Cool snake bow dude! I have one nearly as crooked I made from ironwood about 5 years ago. Yours was a lot tougher to make than mine. Congrats!!

Here are my pics everyone wants to see! Sorry it took so long.

Ya its whip tillered, think I would try redoing it, pike it and try to get some wood bending on the inner limbs.
-
DanaM: Yes, "You took the words right of my mouth", as Meatloaf once sang...
By the way, its so ugly that its already pretty again! Well done in this way, but tiller it out a little more, for make it stay longer!
Which wood is it, Osage?
-
Wow that took a lot of nerve to take that piece on. Very nice.
-
I like Dana's idea. Get rid of those whip tips and you've got more than just a cool character bow there,I'll bet it becomes a decent shooter. I'm not sure how many bows you've built but I will say you have guts and I like that in a fella. Great job regardless. Danny
-
looks like somthign in my collection, persimmion around my place loks just like that too. i have only found one or 2 that where kinda straight. good job with it. keep up the good work.
-
Someday years from now I might tiller it some more but as for now I'm happy! It took three months of slow scraping so I'm not real excited about scraping it more.
-
Glad to see the pictures. I would sure like to see an unstrung side profile and a shot of the back. It looks like the tips line up good, how about a shot of the belly while it is strung so I can see how the string tracks over the handle.
-
Very nice bow!!!
-
Wow ! I cannot believe you'd even start.You got guts....Beauty Frank
-
If you like it...and the String stays on....leave it and shoot the pssss out of it.....they said this Birch Bow would not last the Meet I took it to....and now it's three years old

Looks like an authentic primtive stick bow to me. Great candidate for February Self BOM

who .....Me........... or Cavemans Bow?? Cavemans is cool

Bow of the month would be cool ! ;D Here are the other pics Justin. Some of the whip ending comes from the tips. The natural grain of the wood bends toward the belly at the tips.
I wish I would have taken a picture of this stave when it was given to me. It was seriously trash wood. The guy that gave it to me was going to burn it. He handed it to me and said " Here ya go make a bow from this, I dare Ya". I think he was joking and was trying to get rid of his junk.

It lines up pretty good down the center. It really is a shame that it is whip ended and has taken so much string follow on the ends. How does the draw weight compare to what it was when you finished the bow. Has it dropped dramatically with the string follow. Justin
-
Thats not string follow on the ends. Thats the natural curve of the grain. It has followed the string more than most of my bows but the string follow is average. I haven't weighed it in forever but it seems the same.
