I just got back from Home Depot with some tools of the trade and 2 Red Oak boards to start out with.
I have yet another question.
One of the boards has beautiful grain, but has a slight curve. The curve is not side to side.
This is a six foot board, and when laid flat, one end rises 1/2".
I was thinking of using that as a natural reflex. Is this a good idea??

If the grain is appropriate using the curve as reflex is OK.

What Pat said, and I'll just point out that you'll almost certainly lose that reflex as soon as you start tillering.
Good Luck, and post pics!

Yes, that's fine. Remember the importance of grain in board choice. There's info on my site. Jawge

George,
I haven't just seen your website, I've probably read every word on it :)
It is a wonderful resource for us beginners.
I went through the entire rack at Home Depot with plans to buy several boards. There were two out of probably 40 that had good grain.
If I can get my wife to instruct me on her jedi ways of getting pictures from the camera to the computer I'll post up pics as I build ;D
