Title: Building a Bowyer -
Post by: ravenbeak on January 19, 2009, 03:11:09 pm
A journey each of us takes.  here's mine.

Is it possible to carve out a living making and selling yew selfbows.

I know I can make beautiful bows,  I have a tremendous wood supply, and now I have time.  6 weeks to hopefully complete 12 bows,  which can display and sell at summer festivals while I demonstrate bowyery.

Each piece is at various stages of reduction. and each will be documented.

I know I can count on the support of this group in exchange for pictures.  thanks guys.

As a self employed craftsman, honestly and from my heart.........

Don't quit your day job.
Be ready to use your skills as a woodworker in other un-related areas to allow you to buy groceries.  (e.g. you may need to repair furniture, or hang a door once in a while)
Plant a food garden.
Pretend you are poor.
Immerse yourself in self-reliance.
Accept bartering as an everyday skill and activity.
Follow your dreams.........don't quit there is NO OTHER OPTION.

Best wishes and we are all pulling for you.
