This is a little bow I started working on at Pappys back in November. It's 60" ntn and about 1-3/8" wide. It has a couple thin courses of sinew on the back, covered with one timber rattler skin split down the middle. The overlays are deer horn and the handle wrap is hemp twine soaked in epoxy.
It draws 49 @27" and shoots good.
I had this thing tillered out to 53 @27", but noticed a few small chrysals on the top limb just above a knot. >:( So I re tillered it to bend a little more just above and below the chrysals. They don't seem to be getting any worse, but they're there all the same. Saw Filer

I agree Beautiful. Those tips are awesome :o

Thats a nice looking little bow Shannon to bad about the frets. Osage rarely does that but I have seen it.
-
I think the wood may have been a bit green. I cut it just 8 months before and it had not been in a hot box or anything.
-
Fooey on the crysals. It looks like BOM material to me.
-
Good looking bow!! I like those skins..
-
Nice Shannon. I have an osage bow that was 2 months off the stump when I made it and it fretted just above the handle. I'll have to repair it as you did. Pat

That baby turned out great,I know you were a little bumbed about the chrysals but if they ant getting any worse I wouldn't worry about them.Beautiful finish work as usuall. Very nice job. :)

Nice Bow Shannon....Have you thought about wrapping the Frets with Sinew....or wouldn't this do any good?? Maybe it will be enough to just relieve them with the new Tiller??
-
Beautiful bow Sawfiler. Tiller looks great.

Swell bow and tiller! The tips look like hooves ready to trot off leaving tiny tracks like a javelina - too cool!
-
wow- wish my "mistakes" turned out that nice! :D
awesome bow!
-
Great looking bow. Beautiful nocks. I bet it will really fling an arrow.
-
Great looking bow, those tips are awsome, why wouldn't you put it in BOM.
-
Thanks Guys
The reason I don't want it in BOM is because of the chrysals.
I think any bow that is obviously flawed is not BOM material.
A bow must not only look good, but more importantly BE good to deserve a vote. Good...As in well tillered and reliable.
Not saying this one's junk. Just that it's flawed and IMO not worthy of the contest. ;)
-
Shannon, sometimes there's some internal flaw in the wood that keeps it from making a reliable bow...I'm sure this is the case with your's, although with the precautions you've taken with the sinew it might still have a long life. It is a beauty though! :)

Great bow as always, Shannon. I love the tips, the skin, the handle, the profile. I would not worry about the chrysals. I have made many bows that have chrysalled somewhat, but they still shot well and held up after many shots. Read Billy Burger's article in the latest PA about some problem bows that have turned out to be great hunting weapons. I agree about BOM, though. I think those bows ought to be about as "perfect" as we can get them. Can't wait to see you at Pappy's in May.

Truly impressive, I love the relaxed profile. Justin

If you are worried about the chrysal and it is bending correctly glue a small rawhide patch over the portion of the belly that is cracked and wrap with thread. I've never had one fail after doing that.
-
Shannon, that's a wicked looking bow. I wouldn't worry about the chrysals if they aren't getting worse after you retillered it. Looks like a good hunter to me. Like everybody else, I like the tips, too. And the tiller. And the skins. And everything else.
-
Man that's a beauty Shannon! Everything about it looks great. Hmmm....I have a nice 60 inch osage stave and a timber rattler skin...hope you done have a copyright on that bow. ;D :D

Shannon, Like Hillbilly said, you probally fixed it with the retiller. It look's deadly to me. Your bows look TopShelf like your knapping.
