I just ordered two hickory staves from rudderbows today. So i took the first step, now i guess I am just going to hang on and take the ride. I hope it is as addicting as you guys say it is. I have already given my wife fair warning. I hope to have a garage full of bows in a few years.
I'm sure I will be asking some questions.
thanks, Bob

Ya, it starts with a stave, then you start goin to flea markets to find that tool you have to have(that they dont make anymore) then you start beatin on rocks, then start robbing road kill of their skin and sinew...then you make your poor wife a bow to make up for ignoring her all the time...can I get an Amen,lol...Best of luck to ya ;)....Brian
p.s....then you start makin arrows..sigh ???..it goes on and on..we dont get bored much :D

Amen! ;D

good to hear that man, you might want to buy a small spool of dacron too- reliable stuff- i wont build up the experience, but ill tell you one thing- theres nothing like spending the weekends tillering a bow infront of a mirror, and sanding it in the garage, all good fun, good luck man. oh koan... Amen! ;D -jimmy

AMEN ;D

You're hoping to get addicted to this? :o
Dude, wooden bow building is an affliction that your family, friends, significant others, coworkers, bosses and you will suffer through for the rest of your life. Hope that you DON'T get addicted. But if you do you'll have good company and a sanctuary here ;D
-
Addicted? You guys might be but not me :D
-
hallelujah,and amen brother
i just realized i did this in the wrong order,i got addicted to making bows ,tried making an arrow or two and yes even the road kil thing, but never bopped a
rock yet,so maybe i am not addicted yet since i didnt follow the proper order. ;D

Brian, that all sounds strangely familiar for some reason....;D Welcome to the affliction....uh I mean addiction...uh, well you'll know soon enough. :)

Welcome! Fasten your seatbelt. It will be quite a ride for you. While you are waiting for your staves and to practice for them why not get yourself a nice straight grained red oak board from the nearest lumberyard or home center. Info on my site. Jawge

Don't encourage the boy George - the fact that he's hanging around here is evidence that his future is grim enough as it is. :D

Amen! I'm just gonna sit back and watch ::).

I did one of those, they're pretty easy and fun. I went for about 58# so I backed it with burlap. It shoots great! Doing the reflex/deflex hickory and bamboo kit next. PD
-
It truly is an addiction. Just wait till you start driving off the road lookin at trees or cane. Or when you slow down to assess the damage to an animal the car in front of you just hit. It makes me angry anymore when someone won't at least use the animal they just killed.
-
Yep, It's a fun ride ! Hang on and take it for all it's worth !

i have heard that the kit with boo/osage is better, thats my next kit. although a "real" stave is always prefered ;)

You'll start looking at things such as roadkill in a totally different manner before you know it. By then, it'll be too late for you.
-
Its ok to make your wife a bow, and teach Her how to shoot. Its when she starts making targets that have your picture on it that you have to worry! ;D
-
Welcome, and I would like to say I AM A WOODBOWAHOLIC. ;D and I can tell you this place won't help.I eat, sleep and think about bows most of the time, not all but most of the time. ;) ;D ;D
