I was wonderin how yall prefer to shoot off the hand or off a rest? Personally I've shot both ways and really don't prefer one over the other. I know with factory arrows it can be a painful experience shootin off the hand.
-
Offhand....Turkey Fletch..........nothing but Cedar.....Spruce or Cane Arrows....and Turkey or Goose Feathers....if it gets rough on the Ole Thumb Knuckle....get a Deer or Goat Hide Glove.......... :P
-
I shoot off floppys.

Both for me, but mostly I shoot off a rest. I shoot my yew warbow off the fist, but I wear a specially made finger/thumb glove on my bow hand.
-
Rest, makes me more acurite and easier to spine arrows and more comfortable in hunting situations.
-
I do add a couple of wedges of leather as a rest for several reasons. I like being able to keep an arrow nocked while sitting using a little pressure from the forefinger of my shooting hand. I feel a gain a bit more accuracy. I hate those little cuts I get on y shooting hand even when I skive and wrap the leading edge of the fletching. Jawge

I've shot off of my hand, I've made small leather arrow rests but now I use a floppy. It gives the feeling of shooting off the hand but protects your hand from the fletching. I always wrap the forward end of the fletching but like George, those little nicks seem to happen anyway and especially on old skin like I'm getting for some reason. ::) The floppy does the trick and protects my hand. Either way, but I usually glue on a little wedge of leather or a floppy. I despise cut-in shelves on a selfbow. :)
-
Off the hand using arrows with carefully wrapped fletching. I've used a rest and I guess it makes shooting more comfortable....but I prefer the simplicity of a bow without a rest.
-
I've been making cutout shelves so far, only 3 shooter selfbows and a coupla board bows under my belt, though, and I feel more comfortable as a beginner shooting this way.I typically have to get setup quickly after work for evening hunts, so I prefer taking as little as possible with me in the woods. I hunt mostly off the ground in improvised blinds, or in low-level tree setups, with just a butt cushion, and like having a shelf - it helps me wait motionless with an arrow ready. I also prefer the simplicity and challenge of a tree-stand-less hunt. Have had several close opportunities this year, (no good shots aside from a suicidal button buck I've let slide 3 times - he spends some time on my property, so I want to watch him grow up at least another year. ).have only 2 hunts or so left......Pressures on ;D
-
I do
-
Mostly off the knuckle and haven't been cut yet :)
-
I use both too.But ,on the bows I intend to hunt big game with,I prefer a rest of some sort, usually made of the same wood the bow is,covered with leather. It 's an accuracy factor with me. Merry Christmas, and God Bless
-
Pat, shooting off your hand must have really hurt. LOL. :) Jawge
-
On my stiff handled flatbows I always cut in a rest. If i make a narrow d bow i shoot of my hand
-
I used to shoot off the nuckle but change to a leather rest so I could keep an arrow nocked all the time. I tape a tiny piece of primitive manilla envelope colored with a brown sharpy on the outside of the rest to make sure the arrow does not fall off. Of course I learned of all these problems the hard way. :'(
-
I shoot both off my hand and with a rest (depending on which bow I'm using). I like both but I'm a little bit more accurate when i shoot off a rest.
-
Off my hand all the way. More quiet, more consistent (so long as you place your hand in the same spot each time), doesn't endanger the bow's integrity, and is alot easier to put on a bow ;).
-
I do both but I prefer of the knuckle...floppy rest is best of both worlds....Brian
-
Got tired of pulling those pesky feather fibers out of my hand. I have started making just a little leather shelf, and, man is that nice. piper
-
weth selfbows, usually off the hand, with the lam bows I have they have rests in em- but i've heard great things about floppy arra rests-i'd use em if i had em ;D -jimmy
-
I prefer to shoot off a rest after an arrow came apart and went into my nuckle and hand. It's too sensitive now with the scarring. When I do shoot off a nuckle , I wear a leather glove.
-
ive done both ways, a rest and off the knuckle.i prefer off the knuckle, never had a cut or a nick, although when i shoot my boo/ipe elb i tend to get a little sensitive
after a about 30 arrows or so,but that thing is shooting 62lbs,all my other bows are at about 50 or less. the extra speed it generates is enough to get my knuckle a
little sore after shooting awhile. i can shoot hundred or so out of my others without a problem.
-
I like a small wedge of leather for a shelf. First bows I cut a shelf but know I don't seem to like the cut shelf anymore!!
I think the shelf helps me in hunting situations!! Seems I can do enough things wrong when a deer comes along!! ;)
-
lowell- Amen to that-right there with ya ;D you grab an arrow from toy're quiver and realize the flethings are soggy as a wet dog from the snow, you pull it out anaways, because all of you're others are wet too, and you pull ot a blunt ;D that just happened to me saturday- haha
-
Hi, I've pretty much settled for shooting off the hand. A floppy rest gives me the same feel, but doesn't improve my accuracy any. Ron
-
Mostly off the knuckle and haven't been cut yet :)
Me too....and Me neither.... ;D......must be Da Yooper Hide.....Eh!!!
-
its da cold air, it toughens up da skin ya know
-
I like an arrow rest. I will cut them in or glue them on, doesn't bother me either way. I have never had a bow come compromised because I cut a shelf.
-
Well I make one before with cut shelf, quite nice to shoot.
Though, not quite same feeling as shooting off hand :)
I like to be in control of everything. ;)
