It was about 28 degrees this morning in east Texas .I got to stand early because I saw a good buck last evening,and hoped he might still be around.About 7:30,a nice fat 8 point came by,stopped in a hole at 20 yards,and just as I was about to act,I heard a deer grunt behind me.Thinkin' he would see me ,I held still.When he got around enough to see him,it was this fella.They checked out a scrape,that was 15 yards from me,but ,behind a cedar tree.I was fine till 7:45,then the cold sank in.I started shaking like a leaf,just knowing one of the bucks would look up and see my switchcane arrow bobbing up and down like the needle on a geiger counter.The smaller 8 started easing off,and the big one turned my way,browsing a little..He came around the cedar tree,and stopped facing me at 13 yards.The other deer turned away from me,so I turned to my right,still seated.He kept me waitin' till 8:00,then I saw his left foot step out and back.He came broadside,and I leaned out ,drew and released.The bandsaw trade point did it's job,and he was down in 40 yards,heart shot.I took him with "She's got legs",the snake backed osage I posted a few months ago.Here's a couple of pictures;

Howdy PeteC,
Many Congrats on that really nice, well earned buck!
Yeah, hunting in the cold weather is a challenge in its self. But, when I'm hunting on public hunting lands, I like the cold because there's fewer hunters - just the hardy few who know what they're doin'.
Hay, any chance you can post a picture, or a description of that nice quiver of yours. I'm trying to put together a simple, functional huntin' quiver. I sure could use some guidance.
Thanks a bunch,
Canoe
... and enjoy them steaks!!

Thanks Hillbilly,it was a very exciting hunt.Canoe ,here's the cane quiver.Just a piece of leather on each end to quiet it down,wooden plug at the bottom.You can make one in 30 minutes,it's really simple.I used cane,but bamboo would work. If any questions,just ask. Merry Christmas,and God Bless

Nice deer and nice shot! I know what that shake feels like too! I have a similar story, but it didn't turn out as good as yours. :(

Howdy PeteC,
Yes, great story and with equipment you made - keep it simple.
Thanks for posting the pic. of that quiver. I'm a little concerned that a cane (or bamboo) casing would cause some noise while I'm stalking along thought the brush or even while I'm trying to pull out an arrow as a deer approaches.
I think I'm going to have to go with a leather quiver.
Thanks again,
Canoe

Good choice for leather,it's much quieter.I just kinda got in the habit of grabbing the little cane quiver when headin' to the deer stand.It's fine for small game,or stumpin',but not for stalkin' deer.Thanks,and God Bless
