That's really a nice bow.  I'm glad to see yet another piece of raw materials I've managed to scrape up has turned into something.  I can hardly manage to make a paper airplane, but I keep trying.  Ryan's also made some really nice arrows from some cane and turkey feathers I sent him and killed a couple of nice deer in MT with those.  To say he makes me sick is an understatement.   :'(  This black walnut has been a real challenge, as the wood presented quite the challenge.  Ryan has been at it for over year with this bw and his determination has paid off.  It's really nice to see.  Thanks, Ryan.

thanks a lot guys. i appreciate the kind words.

its true, Dax is a major supplier to me of the things i cannot get here in FL like river cane and some other woods. We have a hunting trip planned together for January in his state of Alabama  so hopefully this walnut bow will make the trip and with any luck stick a whitetail.

Black wlanut huh? I have'nt seen a bow done in that yet so I am greatly encouraged to give it a try. I harvested an 8"diameter one this summer.  I thought it was elm and it ended up being walmnut. I split it into quarters and wasn't sure if I was even gonna work it,but now I know I better get it debarked and roughed out. Don't think I will try making mine that short but I'm gonna give it a go none the less. Glad you posted this cuz these bad boys are super straight too. Anyone know how long BW needs to cure?  Danny

thanks for the encouragement guys.

sidewinder- i cured mine for a little over a year, then i chased the ring down to the heart wood.
how much heart wood do you have on it if you quartered it?  i heard the sapwood works ok too. the one i tried from sapwood broke, but it was twisted every which way to sunday.
if your interested in tradin one of the BW staves you let m know ok? ;) ;) ;D  - Ryan

Great looking bow, and impressive that you stuck with your plan to flip the tips and made it happen!  ;)

Looks like a good turkey bow. Really like the all heartwood and the character knots. Nice bow Ryan!
