how much to shorten limb?

when making the lower limb shorter do you shorten it by however much you're placing the arrow pass above center? For example, if my arrow pass is 1 1/2" above center would I shorten it 1 1/2"?

Possum, mark the center of your bow, go 1 1/2" above center and make a mark and go 2 1/2" below the center and make a mark. Between the 2 marks is your 4" handle. The bottom limb will be just a bit shorter than the top. Pat
