This is a green jasper point that I just made. I tried very hard to thin the base with at least four passes before I even tried to thin the middle and point. I have always had difficulty with getting the lenticular shape and I think that thinning the base is what I was neglecting. I know that notching is much easier when the base is thin also.

Thats a real good job, i had a probelm getting them good and thin for a while, but i was just using a hammerstone, when i switched to antler i started getting them thin and even. keep up the good chippin- Ryan

Great looking point. That jasper is pretty stuff. Thinning is still a problem for me. One side always has a "hump" to it and the whole point has an end profile like a football. At least now they look like good old American footballs and not the European type.
