opinions wanted
« on: July 07, 2008, 04:46:47 pm »
I am building a bow that will be given away in a raffle for kids only at the Helping Kids Event that me and Hillbilly are going to on the 19th of this month.  It is probably going to be a trilam out of hickory, osage, and ipe.  I am wanting to get your opinions on what the draw weight and the draw length should be because it is going to need to fit a wide range of ages.  So your opinions are greatly appreciated.  For as I do not have time enough to build two.

Thanks,

Dave

David, 45# to 50# at 28" is a good place to start unless you want it for a kid, woman or newby then go for 35# at 26".      Pat

I'd shoot for 30#. A young kid can work up to it and an older one can still shoot rabbits and target shoot. You did say kids only ,right? ???

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

yeah, my to year old bean pole of a step bro shoots my 35 lb recurve when we mess around. i shoot my hickory long, and my friend shoots his 60 lb osage/boo.

point and case, around 30 lbs should work, cuz i know a lot of people who deer hunt with light bows like that, and a yougun could still shoot it.
lets just shoot it

I would go for 35# at about 25" or so.  I think that would probably be legal hunting weight in most states for deer and small game.
