Deft?

I wanted to use tru oil for the first time on a dogwood bow i just finished.  I was wondering if you can use deft lacquer over it or will it smudge? Any info would be much appreciated since i have a real hard time with finishes anyways.

I don't know if they are compatiable, but I would leave it as a tru oil finish only.  Why do you want to put deft on it?  I would be concerned that the thinners in the deft would mess up the tru oil.  If it was me I would do a trial on something that you don't care about first.

I'd like to keep the bow as dry as possible. I didn't think tru oil did that good a job of waterproofing. I have been known to drop my bow in a creek on accident.

I used Tru oil on my flintlock, and it's holding up to the Western Washington rain pretty well...

In my experience Deft laquer will orange peel and lift tru-oil - Oil is not as durable as poly and not as water resistant - with tru or tung oil you need mnltiple coats for durability

Yup it will wreck your finish in seconds. I also learned the hard way. A little acetone cleaned it back down to the wood fast though

Thanks everyone I thought it might cause problems. Deft seems to smear alot of stuff. I really like how fast it dries though. Would I be better off to go to some sorta poly? If so what kind?

I think Pat has mentioned that he usually puts a coat of satin poly or spar urathane over Tru-oill to knock the shine off.

I do use spray satin poly on my hunting bows to cut the shine of the Tru-Oil. I have use it as a more complete coat over Tru-oil also with no problems. Tru-oil in multiple coats will protect your bow just fine. No matter what you use you will never make a wood bow moisture proof(resistant, yes) and as a matter of fact you don't want to completely seal a wood bow. It need to breath or it will dry rot.
   I have sat through a few hours of moderate rain with no ill effects to my Tru-Oil finished bows. I have bows that change with the R/H no matter what finish I've used...Tru-Oil, spray poly, poly wipe on, shellac and Massey finish or a combination of some.     Pat

Thanks Hillbilly and Pat.  This bows gonna get tru oil and spray poly. It will probly be better bout runs as well.
