Iowa Deer Classic?
« on: February 25, 2025, 07:28:53 pm »
I know it's heavy on the compounders, but I messaged the people running it and they said anything except crossbows is welcome.  I'm planning on hitting it up on Saturday, March 8th.  Anyone else going?  Would be nice to meet some of the people from the forums!

Thought I'd post an update, I did terrible lol!

I was one of the few with a recurve, and the only one without fancy gear slapped on.  Nerves and annoyance got the worst of me (There was some *serious* issues with sportsmanship, particularly in the 3-D area) but by the end I was warmed up and focused enough that I scored a couple bullsyes, right when the rest were getting tired and aiming worse lol.

I may go again next year but actually practice more leading up to it (I had surgery the year before with a long recovery so I couldn't do a whole lot until recently)

Honestly, that doesn’t sound terrible at all. Showing up with a recurve and no fancy gear already says a lot, and finishing strong when others were fading is a win in my book. Nerves happen—especially with bad sportsmanship around—but you adapted.

Im afraid it just natural. It seems like everything gravitates to its own. People, animals. Even hunters and archers.

Don’t let it get you down. When you find your own, you will know it.

Every group has their unique style and personality. This stuff isn’t for everyone. I fact it’s a very small group that really gets it. A few more that find it a neat curiosity. And a bunch more that could care less about it.

Every group has a few that know they are better than others. Even our group. Try not to be that guy.

Everyone isn’t going to be interested in your stuff, but some will. Try not to let the ones who don’t get , get you down.

The ones that do are out there. Keep them in mind. Often they might just be watching from a far. If you notice them give them a smile. If they ask you questions try to answer them in a friendly simple way that they don’t feel intimidated by.

Hope you find others. This is a great place to start. If you can get to a primitive or traditional shoot or event.

Good luck
