Hop Horbeam bendy handle 40#@26
« on: May 19, 2024, 08:31:06 pm »
Made this bow for a friend at work.  It's my first bow in a couple years.  This was a smaller hop hornbeam stave that had a lot of twist and alignment issues.  It's still not perfect and the tiller has a little to be desired but it shoots.  Finished the back with various leather dyes and the belly with steel wool vinegar and a touch of baking soda.  I love the weathered grayish look that gives white wood.  Just a plain Jane floppy rest and a doubled up leather handle wrap.  Handle section was beefed up with some cork to give it a better feel. Bow was made at 40 or so pounds at 26 inches.  Bow handle just starts to flex at full draw.  Pics coming soon.

I picked up some PRIMO Michigan hop hornbeam "ironwood" at the Tennessee Classic. One of them will be a tribute bow to Rich Rousseau/half-eye, a shorter bendy handle sorta thing. This bow of yours just confirms that plan.

Thanks for sharing this sweet darling!

Nicely done. Looks great.   Hhb is great bow wood if you can find it straight.  When it works it works well

Nice job on that HHB bow!  I have a couple HHB staves and plan to make one soon. Nice tiller job!

I like the finish too. Nice work. It’s kinda fun making that style.

That´s a nicely ended natural bow. Has the aspect of a great plains warrior bow.
