Hackberry Cherokee Style Bow
« on: December 27, 2023, 10:09:22 pm »
I haven't been on here in a long while, took a hiatus from bow making but I'm getting the bug again so plans are to get all those bows I started years ago finished up.
This one is from some hackberry I cut probably 8 - 10 yrs ago. I had half a log with some bug damage so I cut a couple of quarter sawn boards from it.
Specs are;
40lbs @ 28" (although my draw is 26ish)
59 1/2" NTN (60 1/2" overall)
Slightly bends at the handle.
finished off with 4 coats of tru oil and a leather wrap handle.
Its a good little shooter and I'm happy with the way it turned out seeing how rusty my tiller skills are.
thanks for looking.

Shawn! Ha! What a coincidence, I was just thinking of you yesterday when I picked up that snakeskin backed osage bow you sent me in a bow trade years back. I strung her up and made a few tentative draws. Says 45#@26, but it felt a little more than that. I wonder if she picked up a pound or two as she's been curing out, or if I am just getting more and more out of shape.

Nice to see you posting again, especially sweethearts like this!

Thanks yall....
Ya JW Halverson I'm glad you still have it. I have a bow from that sister stave almost finished, got it to low brace years ago and hung it up. I may finish that one next and post it.

Aaron1726, its kinda narrow.
1 3/16" at the handle and  gradually tapers to 5/8" at the nocks.
