An unorthodox pyramid?
« on: May 19, 2008, 11:19:12 pm »
This may be a dumb question but could you make a pyramid bow that was recurved? What would it's downfalls or benefits be? Has anyone done this?

Acording to TBB 1, that's how the modoc indians of california always did it so it must be an ok design to have been their favorite.

A pyramid recurve is definitely an option. Each design has its benefits and drawbacks(like everything else) but there is no reason to use both methods in a single bow design. A pyramid style bow evenly distributes the stresses through out both limbs making it more efficient. Adding recurved tips isn't necessary with a pyramid design but isn't necessarily unorthodox. Recurving the tips on a bow(almost any bow) will add more performance but it will also add more stress. Its all give and take.     Pat
