Yep,but that usually happens to the outside sun exposed layer over time.This is an inside ring not exposed to the  sun.

One stave that has a purple back  from the dead logs is a 50 inch stave that I  am making into a horse style bow. I have it off the form ,and ready to tiller. I am going to push it get 25 inches of draw even if it turns out lower poundage. It has near 3 inches of reflex before tillering. If it works OK, and if not I tried.
