What to do with that hide

I’m certainly not the best leather worker, but I have done a few simple projects.
Don’t need much for this one. A little hide, a scissors, a stapler and a large needle.
First step. Cut lace by cutting it from around the outside of hide.

Then the hard part. Making yourself cut up that hide.
I’m not going to need much hide for this project and a few holes in the right places aren’t going to hurt anything. Makes it a little easier to cut this piece off the hide. No measuring. Just using what I have.

Then I lay the cut piece over the hide as a rough pattern. I think this spot will work nice and not waste much hide.

I put them together how I want them and staple them together.

Then I stitch them together using the lace I cut and a large needle. I’m using a different color for contrast.

Then I stitch it all the way around again 180 degrees out of phase from the first time around. I’m also using a different color from first pass.

Then I make a Flemish twist strap and attach it to the flap of my sheath using a piece of river cane for a stiffener.

Next is the magical part.
Cutting fringe. I love fringe. It makes all the unmeasured scraps look neat and gives the whole project the look I like.

Pretty simple. A little crude. Just my style.
I hope you give it a try

Thanks Bob
Thanks Ed. Pretty crude compared to some of the fine stuff you’ve done. It’s a start though and I kinda like this look.
Getting a little more comfortable using my leather. Maybe I’ll even get up enough nerve to cut up one of my brain tan hides .

Nice job. Great use of the material, too! Nothing wrong with a primitive look!
