Glue for horn tip overlays
« on: September 27, 2021, 03:13:58 pm »
I知 about to put some horn tip overlays on a bow and am wondering what glue, usually I just use CA glue but maybe I should use something else? Not an English longbow style tip, just an overlay on the back.
Why must we make simple things so complicated?

I've used gel super glue, TBIII and 2ton epoxy with good results.
Are you talking horn or antler?

No! Just use quality superglue. No need to use anything else.

High viscosity superglue is what I use. I have used epoxy in the past and had one slip off.

Hmm maybe I should have come back and read this before just doing it :fp (lol)

I usually use CA glue but this bow isn't for me and I wanted to be certain it would stay on..... sooo... will TB2 work? or should I take it off and re-do?

TBII is stronger than TBIII and I've used TBIII for horn overlays.

Titebond is a WOOD glue :) It may work but is definately not meant ofr gluing horn. Horn is nothing like wood! As I said above a quality superglue is what you want. I've probably done around 600 sets of overlays.....quality superglue is the way to go :)

Okay, next time ill just use superglue.  ;D.   It seems to have worked fine I was a bit ruff on the tip to make sure it would stay on and it seemed pretty good.

I have used quality ca glue with proper preparation and have had about 4 tips pop off years later. I only use tb3 now with no issues so far.
