Trade bow 2.0
« on: July 29, 2021, 01:34:53 am »
So I finally finished my trade bow - this is version 2.0. The first version was improperly tillered (negative tiller) and mysteriously fretted. After really thinking through it I believe the issue was a number of design flaws - too short, too narrow, not trapped enough, boo slightly too thick, and edges not quite rounded enough. So I set off to rebuilt version 1.0 only better, correcting those mistakes and I believe this one does that. It’s bamboo backed ERC pulling 40 at 26. It’s got about 1/8 inch positive tiller. The handle wrap is stingray. The tip overlays are mammoth tusk over Buffalo horn and the strike plate is inlayed mammoth tusk. I find it to be a very pleasant shooter, and shoots off the hand well. It maintains decent reflex after hours of being strung and more than 200 arrows through it. But most importantly it didn’t fret! Hope my recipient enjoys it!

Looks great. I knew that combo would be pretty sweet to shoot too.

Very pretty bow. What does that Ray skin feel like? Someone is going to be beyond happy with that.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Someone asked about the ray skins - they feel kinda weird actually - almost like tiny glass beads. Nothing at all like leather feels. I went with ray skins purely for aesthetic reasons. In particular I felt the combination of the white oval on black would look sharp and match the mammoth on Buffalo tip overlays and have everything flow together real well visually.
