Spalted ash ?
« on: March 07, 2021, 02:26:22 pm »
Hi there. I've been kindly given some ash planks but left them in my shed over winter and could only use a tarp for the roof as I could not afford the felt. This was temporary and caused some slight damp to get into the shed. The water I believe did not penetrate the wood because it was off the floor... anyway. I started to cut the wood into staves beautiful straight grain and noticed spalting through some of the material. My question is. Is it now firewood or can it still be used for a bow ?

Neither, you might be able to do some fancy carving with it.

Not OK for bows but could be for lots of other things.
