Opinion sought on Ipe flat d bow
« on: August 29, 2020, 10:40:16 am »
At a request, I am planning a long bamboo backed Ipe flat bend through handle sort of eastern Woodland design, 65# at 28"   I figure 71" ntn and 1&1/8" wide

Ipe slat I have is 9/16" think.   Thick enough for design?

Yup certainly is :)
Taper rate of 0.009" cut into the ipe before glue-up will get you close to tillered.

You probably want 7/8ths thickness in the handle to start off.

Welcome back, Dave Glad to see you are still at it.
You could add a power lam between the ipe and boo at the handle if 9/16" isn't enough at the handle. If you are wanting a stiff handle flat bow that may be what you'll have to do.

Thanks.   Hi Pat.  I always visit once in a while.  I figured a thin tapered central lam would be needed.  Just wanted to hear it.
