Short osage and plum help
« on: April 07, 2020, 11:25:28 pm »
I have a short osage and 2 plum staves. Need some dimensions for the short osage. And looking for opinions for the plum. I could cut them down and possibly make a couple takedowns. Or is it possible to get a selfbow out of them. Very snakey!

How long and what draw length are you looking for?

Is that plumb split in half? It looks like mirror image.

The plum is over six foot and they are sisters. I'm a 28"-30"  I'm not looking for anything over 50#

Do you have 3 round logs there? Just making sure what I'm looking at. I don't know if you're up to splicing but I would cut the plums in half and splice the two bent pieces together and the two straight pieces together. If they are six feet long they must be 3" in dia??

I also would cross cut the plum splits into billets. That way you will end up with 2 sets of symmetrical billets.

What style of osage bow do you want, bend through handle or stiff?  What limb width can you get out of that log? How long is it?

I split the osage and it has quite a bit of twist. The 2 pcs footage are now 42"  I'll be going witha bandy handle with those. Don't know I fill do anything with them it would take lot of corrections to get them straight enough. I will be cutting the plum to billets. Ie always wanted to work with plum.
