Just a comment on the Web as a whole,  this is the Web by the way the Internet uses a different protocol, its Email and stuff.   At any rate we refer to this E-Media as the Internet.

............its like a bad bar you return after 10 years and its the same people jugging on the bottle.  I dont miss anything after been away form it for a couple days,  try it you may like it.   I read do word search and stuff.

We're not done with this yet.  There have been about 100 new members trying to register an account in the last day.  Before this we would get maybe 2 or 3 per week.

Damn Russians ( I just blame them for everything anymore )

We need a meeting place in the event of catastrophic shut down. We also need a buddy system to check up on each other and pass important information along as it arises. We may need to colonize elsewhere....

Oddly enough the IP address's don't point towards Russia but rather NA and the Caribbean.

Most of them I can't get a lock on their location, must be using VPN.  All the ones that do give a location it's NA,Carib and also parts of Africa.

It's becoming too much of a pain and I just delete all new account requests right now.  i know that there may be some legit applications but I just can't sort them out

I've been reporting suspicious looking posts that look like spammers.  I don't know if that helps or not.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Yes, Clint that does help. Every member should report any posts or threads that don't seem legit and we, the Admins and Mods can deal with it from here. We can't monitor 24/7 but try our best to keep a handle on it. Every member should help keep this forum the great forum it is and not allow these trouble makers to take advantage of us.

I see on simple machine forum that the last stable release is 2.0.15
maybe it would offer some minor improvements respect the 2.0.7 currently installed

IP based control is of little use as IPs can be changed easily

You may already checked that :

I eliminated 3 yesterday. These spammers come in waves. We may not see any more for a while but that's not a given. This is the reason folks have to keep trying to sign up for PA to help eliminate these trouble makers.

I noticed there is no use of avatar in this forum
if you ask the new member to choose an avatar to complete the registration this will be another barrier to limit the bots making mass subscriptions

I know the common issued related to avatars usage.
One solution could be to deny image uploading for avatars and provide a limited and well chosen set of avatars to choose from

Deerhunter, people have to keep jumping through hoops before they are accepted here on PA. Generally bots and spammers won't do that.
