It could be a good combo - as long as you make the bamboo very thin. I'd say 1/16" thick at the crown, or close to that at least.

Sure, if you can match the two in dimensions..   Quite a few guys would put lilac as the best compression wood out there.

Can you find a piece of Lilac straight enough. I've thought of doing a Boo backed Ocean Spray but I think it would take days of steaming and heat treating to get the OS as straight as the Boo.

Jes, DC, its hard to find but lilac allows wery well to heat and steam bending. I made a sinew backed reflex test bow with recurved limb tips from lilac. Its 1.3 meter ntn and i pull it to 27 inch and it will hold decent reflex after unstringing. Its magic :)... Lilac is very heavy and so is boo, that is my guestion about....

finding a straight 3' billet's gonna be a heck of a lot easier than 6' stave.

Lilac  is heavy but it's no heavier than some  other woods used with bamboo.
