Bike tire strips

I use bike tire strips for my glue-ups. As I get older and my arthritis gets worse I'm finding it harder to grip the strips and get max tension on them. I use 1 1/2" to 2" strips. I'm wondering if I cut the strips in half so I have 3/4" or so wide and double up on the  number of wraps will I still have the same compression? My gut says yes and maybe even more because I will be able to stretch the narrower one further. What does your gut say?

I often use road bike tubes that are about 3/4" or 1" wide.  They seem to work really well. Maybe try some of them?

Do you use the whole tube or do you split it? I wouldn't be able to stretch a whole tube much. Even a 3/4" one.

I don't see that being a problem Don.  The ones I used to use couldn't have been more than about an 1" wide.  They were split in half.

DC, you should be fine using the narrower tube bands. If you can get them tighter that is the way to go. I've heard you can't get tubes too tight so pull these as tight as you can.

Definitely divide them up to half the width and then double your wrapping. It adds up to the same.

I think they are cut circumfrentually, as in pi-r squared, KISS principle, length wise!  Opps, cake are square, pie are round!  Pi-d!  Wrong formula, right idea, lengthwise cut! so you get long strips, then use a vise grip or channel lock to stretch and wrap!  On the other hand, I haven't had the opportunity to try that method!
