Not secure?
« on: October 26, 2018, 02:20:15 pm »
Just wondering if it says  "Not secure" on the bar in front of  the web address on anyone else's computer?

It on my computer but I've never had a problem that I know of. I don't know enough about computers to say what it means.

Yeah, mine says that too, but I've been on this site for a few years and never had a problem.

It's because the website is not Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

From WIKI:
The principal motivation for HTTPS is authentication of the accessed website and protection of the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data while in transit. It protects against man-in-the-middle attacks.

Thanks for the input. I have been a member of this site since 2006 and have never had a problem either, and was curious since just noticing the warning. It may have been there and I just did not see it. God Bless

Browsers semi-recently started giving warnings of http sites not being secure, it's becoming less acceptable for sites to not have HTTPS.

It turns out this site does have HTTPS, but the HTTP version doesn't redirect to HTTPS and doesn't seem to have HSTS, so I have to go to https://www.primitivearcher.com/smf . The extension "HTTPS Everywhere" could help too.

I did that and now there is a little icon that says "This page is trying to load scripts from unauthenticated sources". it's on the right hand end of where you enter the URL.
