HHB Shorty 54" ttt 50lbs @25
« on: July 28, 2018, 12:05:23 pm »
This is an HHB shorty inspired by a Sioux or Shoshone bow that I had seen in an online data base years ago. Its not quite the same dimensions but this bow is 54 ttt and pulls 50lbs at 25" draw. I made this a while ago and not sure if I posted it or not but here it is for your viewing pleasure. I painted over the cambium using ground pigments and applied a thick coating of green ochre which I then rubbed off to give it an aged or well used look. Tiller isn't the best but this bow shoots well and the grain was some of the straightest ive ever seen on HHB.

Nice little bow.   :OK You could get the outer 1/2 of each limb to bend a bit more.

Them outer limbs are stiff but my fear is that I’ll ruin the tiller even more done that too many times lol

5 scrapes on each limb, exercise, check, 5 more scrapes on each, exercise, check, etc, etc, etc. if necessary.
I also like the paint job.  :OK

Looking good. I agree w/ Pat and Simson about a few, and I do mean a few scrapes to the outer limbs. At 54" w/ it bending through the handle, you could draw it to 27" and what you lose in draw weight w/ those few scrapes, you'll get back w/ a longer draw.

Just my thoughts, but it's a very nice bow either way.  :OK

I like it a Clewis. Looks like it was a very nice piece of HHB. I agree with the others on the tiller, but if you only want 25" draw I bet it's pretty fast.

  Clewis,
That lower limb will probably come around in hand due to string angle...I would love to see full draw in hand...Have to love a Shorty...

Very nice looking bow …. but I wouldn't do much to it until I saw a full draw with you pulling it.
I have been fooled too many times by the tillering tree at full draw.  I have been using the tree until about three or four inches before my target draw.  Using a camera with a person pulling it to tiller it out to full draw.  I have just been tricked too many times by the tree....:);)
