RIP Chris Boyton
« on: July 09, 2018, 05:43:44 am »
Just heard Chris Boyton, the top English Bowyer has died in his sleep last night. I believe he'd been battling cancer for some time.
He did much of the work on the Mary Rose bows.
I saw him about this time last year at a Medieval Society roving marks shoot and had a bit of a chat.
A sad day for all, but he has passed it on for future generations.

I communicated with Chris several times.  A great bowyer.

It seems that a bright light in the traditional crafts of bowyer and fletcher has been extinguished. He wasn’t just an outstanding bowyer, but a good tutor and a nice bloke all round.

RIP mate......

Cheers, Bob

Life is far too serious to be taken that way!
