The big question
« on: May 08, 2018, 01:52:35 am »
From this stave of Western Juniper, should I take:

a 47" flatbow, straight & clear,
or a 72" recurve, with a knot in the middle of one mid-limb?

No point of making 72" long recurve. So i vote for under 40" hupa paddle bow.  :OK

I would suggest a 47" SINEW BACKED flat bow.

I agree on the short bow. Even a clear stave of juniper is not at its best as a lengthy bow.

Who are you making it for and what's their draw length.
Short bow with sinew for their specs is my vote. Could get rid of some of that deflex that way too.

Looks like a nice worth while project you got there.Someday I'll mess with juniper.Closest so far has been red cedar.Looks like your stave came off a trunk?Sinew and good juniper from Chucks' bows I've seen are very nice bows.

I’d vote for a shorty/sinew.  Is it just me or is it wicked deflexed?

Ha Bryce wins the best -answer award! Yes off a trunk, and some deflex at one end but if I go for the short bow it won't be an issue. Making it for myself, and absolutely will be backed with sinew.

I can't adequately express my appreciation for this resource and your input, thanks very much guys
