Hide glue strength

  Hello everyone just curious would hide glue be strong enough to laminate bow woods together or is that asking too much.
I don't have much experience with the stuff just curious.

thanks for the response Pat. Lol i realized after i posted the question that horn bows are made by laminating horn to core with hide glue. So kinda wasted peoples time with this question sorry.

  You are right, though.  Yumi bows, too.  Horn bows and any laminate.  The trade off is long drying times and perfect mating of the glued surfaces because hide glue doesn't fill gaps well.

i wanted to attempt a mollegabet bow with spliced levers at the end with the v splice and i kinda wanted to use hide glue maybe wrap it with sinew as well for extra measure. maybe a splice handle as well. I am feeling a little bit experimental and wanted to try new things.

springbuck i mostly use boards anyway so i have a flat surface that shouldn't be too big of a problem. I live in Michigan and i cant seem to find a way to get staves here.

Stick around.  Your area should be absolutely riddled with bow wood.

Springbuck you are right but i dont know how to go about harvesting wood. I dont think people would like me cutting trees down on there property lol.

I presume that you are not in a rural location.  If living in town, you have to be creative. I have found saplings in the swamp behind the industrial park or creek bottom between the shopping center and the highway somewhere down the railroad tracks away from houses, etc. you only need a 2" - 3" diameter "walking stick"

I am always afraid to get in trouble with people when i find a tree. Is it legal here in michigan to take down small trees in public land?

Not if you ask and get an OK.   some folks can't be bothered and will blow you off, but others will smile and help. scout out some staves in places that owners probably won't care one way or another. sometimes government folks will say no just because there is nothing in the existing way of doing things to "approve"
where as private owners can easily just say "sure", go for it.
