how narrow for tips?

How narrow have you gone with your nocks? I mean the part inside of the string groves. Is there a "safe" rule for osage or other wight woods? The narrowest I've ever gone was 1/4'' inside of the string groves.

I usually make them about 3/8" or so outside the grooves. I've seen some tiny ones posted on here.

Usually like Hillbilly said, 3/8 " but I have made them 3/16 ".........bob

3/8" or less. But it makes it easier to use half pin nocks.

I do the same,3/8 outside and cut them file deep with a 5/32 chain saw file,never mesured it
inside but I guess wit a little figuring I could find out.I guess that would be about 1/16 never
had a problem,but I don't build my bows much over 50lbs.That seem pretty thin,never really
thought about it before.I also never cut across the back unless I overlay the tip.I do that
sometime and sometime I don't. There really isn't as much presure as you would think.
