Smoke sealing sinew backed osage
« on: February 28, 2018, 05:02:01 pm »
Curious if anyone has smoked a sinew and hide glue bow for a finish and how it worked out?
I live in a dry climate with low humidity and was thinkin that might be a cool way to seal my latest bow
Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated

It would have to be relatively cool smoke but I don't see why it wouldn't work. With the oils and resins in wood smoke it could be effective.
Seems I've read of primitive people storing their bows and bows being worked on near the smoke hole of their shelters.

How long would it need to be smoked for?
I guess you would need to let it rehydrate for a couple of weeks after smoking?
