I think it would be hard to keep the colors vibrant.

Well guys, the colors went dull enough that I decided to carefully scrape it off. I was able to get most of it without damaging the wood. Looks like I'll have to come up with a different backing idea. Oh well, live and learn.

you could add color to the leaves,, a thin wash of acrylic,, several coats till you get it righ(glazing),, then seal it,,
the leaves add a nice texture,, try on a scrap piece of wood,, I think you can make it work,,, with a little experimenting,,
maybe even some ink from hobby lobby,,, dilute the red and apply to the leaves,, add a bit of green if you need to dull it,,

if I have time I will try some leaves on a piece of wood to see if I can make the color work,,

Wow, that's a great idea Brad. I do like the texture and natural look of the leaves.  ;)

Aniline dye also fades but you could soak the leaves and make them very bright and see if they hold it a bit better.   You can get the extremely  bright intensifying colors.

Looks like a beautiful back but I would be afraid the over some time they would dry and crack , much like bark left on most wood will over time. Just a thought. ;) :)
