ERC branches, top or bottom better?
« on: September 17, 2017, 12:52:11 pm »
As the title asks, which side of ERC branches are better? I just harvested 5 and am going to look for more. These ones have 55" or so of usable length. The top sides are clean of branches but the bottom sides have quite a few. I'm assuming make ye top te back. My plans are to make sinee backed bendy handles out of them, except for one that is pushing 80". It'll make an ELB self bow.

So which side is better?

Thanks,
Kyle

I've always heard use top because of its tension wood, but to me this makes no sense since it will be sinew backed. It would be worth making two identical bows from the same branch, and find out which is truly better. I've considered it before.....that's as far as my plans made it.
