video embedding
« on: April 11, 2017, 09:21:06 am »
Hello
I see that there are mods for this forum software that allow to embed video from the main video websites (youtube, vimeo...) directly into the messages.
Videos will stay on respective sites (so no bandwidth  nor storage cost for PA) but you dont have to change site to see a posted one (see attached image for visual example).
I think it could be a great plus for the users and it'll resolve that external links problem that sometimes occurs .
the most powerful seems to be
Simple Audio Video Embedder (It's compatible with current PA version)

to install mod, go to admin panel>download packages>upload mod> and then click on install and install the mod. thats all

It's just a fixed image for now just to show how it could be
the mod needs an administrator to install it

Oh.   Forgive me, I'm a little slow when it comes to technology.

We have talked about this and so far the only problem is if someone posts what is called a "monetised" video

I see the point
you dont want external advertisements to show in the site. I think there is no way to avoid it if you embed external video.
On a certain degree also pictures may show brands name and products (tough they're not explicit advertisement)
I'd say that the service to the forum users would surpass the cons and in a long term could potentially produce more visitors (and more attention to PA sponsors) but that's just my personal opinion and don't wont to contest your policies for sure

I just worry about muddying the waters as far as our rules go. Some ads are OK but others are not.  ???
