Depends on where I am in the process, if I am tillering I always just write on the handle where I am
say 50@15 or something like that. Sometimes it's a month before I get back to them and have several going at one time.

For me it doesn't matter if I've been away for 5 min or 5 days. I have to take it to the tree before removing any wood. I'm usually lucky if I can ever rember which limb I was working on.

Some times its weeks before I can get back to working on a bow in the summer , Pencil , plus notes in my phone .

Pencil lines for sure.  I also mark which is the top limb when I am near finished tillering

  I just started marking everything with a big fat crayon.   And check as often as I have to.

I mark an X where I want to take off wood and a O where I don't want to touch it.
