Osage Copperhead 60” tip-to-tip, 45#@25”

Osage Copperhead 60” tip-to-tip, 45#@25” (A shout-out to Osage Outlaw for the Osage stave.)

While building this bow, I discovered there’s really a species of snakes called Osage Copperheads, interesting. Didn’t know. I, of course, backed this bow with a faux cloth Copperhead snakeskin because—well, I didn’t have (and couldn’t afford) a real one!

The wife was a touch recalcitrant to take a picture, so this is the only full draw shot I could get on an otherwise gloomy, windy day in Colorado.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice bow.  I really like those faux copperheads.  They look great!

Thanks, ya'll.

I stained the whole bow, including the faux cloth snakeskin, with a Light Pecan stain just to see what it would look like. With the eight thin coats of Tru Oil I finished it with, it looks much better on a sunnier day.

For something like $12, and the easy application (I really just sized [spelling?] the back with TB3 then brushed on watered-down TB3), the faux cloth snakeskin is a nice alternative to spending over $100.

Here are few better pictures.

Nice. Why don't you want to draw it farther back?

Hah! You're right, sir. It was literally the only full draw picture (well, almost full draw picture) I could get. I didn't even notice. Good eye. It draws back more--been shooting it a bunch.

There are a lot of folks posting from back in copperhead country.  They are sneaky snakes and if I remember right, often nasty tempered!  Nice bow!

Yeah. When I was a little kid, my parents moved to a swamp-ridden property in Virginia. I remember seeing Copperheads--like a lot of them--from the living room window, sunning. We were advised not mow the lawn.
