I got a roll of bcy 452x for Christmas.  I have only used b-50 before. Just wondering if any of you have used it, and how many strands for a 50# bow? Thanks- brendan

I've never used it but I do use 14 strands of B-50 or B-55 for bows over 45# and 12 strands for 45# and lighter...unless they are very light.

I've used 452X.  I like to use 8 or 10 strands in my strings.  You will need to double serve it to get a good fit on your nocks.

This is the material of my choice, I use 6 strands up to 70 pounds. One strand alone holds 70 pound weight, so you get a 6x savety with a six strand string. Well and I double serve the string at the finger position (more comfort)

Thanks guys! I knew I could use less strands than b-50. 6 strands just sounds so small. I think I'll go with 8 strands. Cheers- Brendan

Because I use a lot less string material and the bow string is lighter.  The bow string is very small in diameter except for the center serving.

I have settled on 12 strands of continuous D97 now, for my Korean bows and such. I'll probably make a B-55 string for my hornbow.. though silk would be cool!

 "use a lot less string material"  I would make a goodstring than a save a few pennys on material.   Does it really make that difference in real life shooting. ?

YES!  8 or 10 strands of 452x is an overbuilt string for selfbows.  It is possible to make a really good bow string and save a few pennies.  I do it every time

Sorry to say that, you're making not a good string - you are making a bad string! It would be way overbuilt and in some cases could destroy your bow. Look here: http://primitive-bows.com/about-strings/

I usually make d-97 bow strings with 8 strands and never had one break up to 70#
