My brother once used bacon grease on his boots and didn't tell me what he had done... we were hunting elk on tghe north fork of the shoshoni river...(grizzly bears everywhere that time of year.eating on pine nuts.) we had bears following us everywhere we went.. and coming into camp at night.. all because of those darn boots... so my figuring is if a bear can smell it then so can a deer, elk etc.. I know a deer can smell them, but I don't think it will make a big difference. The thing you need to remember is that people camp and cook bacon all the time so it isn't exactly out of the ordinary for the smell of bacon to be lofting through the trees. Justin

I agree Justin, the best bet is to keep the wind in your face.. then it doesn't matter what you smell like ... Mike a/ho

make sure that you strain the Bacon grease through a Coffee Filter....let it sit....and don't use the Fat...use the white lard....or you could always just buy you some pasteurized Lard from the Supermarket...it wont go rancid

what yankee said,lard is cheap.
but if you keep rendering and straining and cooling in the fridge you will end up with non smelly "white gold"
use it all the time for bows, arras, darts ,leather.
great stuff
