Will it take a wood stain or does it need alcohol to stain it?

I've only used leather dyes on OS, it seems to take it well.
Is this a stave I sent ya a while back?

No Ryan unfortunately one didn't make it. One did make a nice short bow though. My buddy Pat gifted me this one.

I have stained it black with a vinegar and iron solution.

I would use alcohol based leather dye.

Fuming works well on OS but it's a bit of a pain to do. It turns a dark brown.
