Think I'm getting the hang of this

When I was at Marshall my cousin and I bought a 50 lb piece of Mahogany Obsidian. Frank spalled a few bags full for us and I watched. My buddies wanted to see how you get something from that big chunk so I decided to give it a try. I didn't get pictures of the spall but it came from end of chunk where I'm holding this point. Was a decent ridge to follow and got huge spall off (the whole end came off in one piece super smooth and clean). I removed several nice smaller spalls from the huge spall till I got it to where I had a nice preform. Then I got out my bopper and made this point. Just used a little pressure flaking to touch it up. I'm thinking I'm getting the hang of this but usally that's when I screw up. lol.

Yeah, I'd say you're getting the hang of it. Superb work there. Good you didn't take a picture of the spall. The Great Spirit of the Rock doesn't like that and will cause you to destroy the piece almost every time.

I am glad you were interested enough to
try the obsidian in the large size.
I learned a lot about knapping large blades
that way myself.
I have used elk antler for a bopper on it and
like the results.
Keep on trucking, you are on a roll.

Thanks Zuma, I glad I did to. My brother still has a big chunk of butterscotch flint river to spall up yet to. He tried some one night with out me didn't go so good. I don't think he had nearly big enough hammer stone put a couple really nasty steps in before he gave up. That will be a lesson for another day.
