Rainbow Obsidian Knife
« on: August 14, 2016, 10:21:30 pm »
Here's some photos of a knife made from rainbow obsidian that I knapped. I found the whitetail deer antler shed at a local flea market. The tips of the antler had been chewed by a rodent so I saved the base for a knife. The base of the antler is over two inches across the button. The first point coming off the antler was deformed and split into two sections thus making a perfect knife stand. The blade is two inches across at the base, 5/8 inch thick, double notched and is eight inches long. Total length of the finished knife is thirteen inches - quarter in second photo for size.  A friend of mine from Tennessee (Knappin' Jack Faxon) put the knife together - thanks Jack, you do good work. A perfect mammoth skinner. Enjoy, Rick B

That is a lot of pretty blade.  Would like to see a picture of the blade that would show it's thickness!  Joe

Additional photo added - thickness was a little over 5/8"in one spot.

Glad to see you posting again, Rick. That is a nice blade and I wish you would tell the rest of us how to take a picture of Rainbow and get the colors you did in the shot.

All I did was hold the blade in my hand, in front of me and with the sun behind me. I moved the blade around until I could see the colors then took the photo.
