Ash?? and ???

First picture is ash i believe...the second im not sure.  Couldnt get a great picture of the leaves but they are larger single lobed leaves....similar in shape to the ash.  Is it a type of hickory?  I didnt cut the second.....yet!

The second picture looks like the trunk of a young shagbark hickory.
Straight wood may make a better bow, but crooked wood makes a better bowyer

Our older bitternut can start looking like that and young shagbark that I am familiar with often looks a bit shaggier as a small tree.
  How large is this tree in diameter?

  There is quite a bit of variation in how bark characteristics develop.

Got the ash all sealed up....probably go after that other tree soon.  I think I was testing that little red wagon too Gut...especially with my helper hitching a ride!!

i seal em with elmers glue then hit the ends with black laquer.

Did the bark come off in the round? It would make a nice quiver if it did.
