Length of a recurve

When you say that a recurve is 57" ntn (like the wonderful sinew backed by Gordon) you actually mean 57 inches measured along a straight line connecting nocks or following the curves of the bow?

I'm not an expert but I think there's a difference between "Nock to Nock" and "Tip to Tip" being exactly what you're trying to say.. I think Nock to Nock is measured with the reflex already and Tip to Tip is measured before reflex is added (the actual piece of wood you're using at first)

Simply putthe overall length is ttt, ntn is measured to the nocks

You measure the actual length of the bow to give the best picture. Thinking of an extreme case a Korean bow might have tip touching or even crossing reflex and you wouldn't say it's a length of 0 or -2.

   The difference between t-t and ntn is generally pretty small and it's the ntn length that is the functional length of the bow.

Its normally NTN.  AMO is NTN is it not.  As far as smoothness goes I prefer a bow 66" for wood and others at least 62".

I make my strings and string my bows with a bowyers knot on the bottom so the AMO standard length string doesn't matter.

The numbers on a manufactured bow are NTN.  Hence 62" / 40#.  Most recurve strings are about 4" shorter.  58" should do it.
